LAOAG CITY – Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, the eldest son of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., filed on Thursday (Oct. 7) his certificate of candidacy for congressman of the first district of Ilocos Norte.

Accompanied by his parents and sibling, along with his cousin Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Joseph Manotoc, the young Marcos thanked his supporters as they cheered for him after he stepped out from the second floor of the Provincial Comelec office.

“I would like to thank everyone for their unending support and rest assured that I am devoted to making the lives of our kakailians (fellow residents) better. This is only the beginning,” he said in an ambush interview.

The 27-year-old Marcos who earned his master’s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science is expected to run against incumbent Ilocos Norte first district Rep. Ria Christina Fariñas, daughter of former majority floor leader and congressman Rodolfo Fariñas.

Backed by the current administration and the different mayors of Ilocos Norte, the young Marcos expressed confidence that the best way possible to help the people of Ilocos Norte is for him to have a seat in Congress.

Prior to his filing of candidacy, Sandro was appointed as the economic consultant of the Ilocos Norte government. He has been visible during meetings with local leaders while joining the Ilocos Norte government’s distribution of relief assistance for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) affected residents such as personal protective equipment and livelihood packages, among others.

He likewise served as a political affairs officer of his uncle, House Majority Leader Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin G. Romualdez, for more than two years. (PNA) – bny
