Around 3.5M Filipinos stranded due to quarantine – SWS

The latest survey from the Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed that 5.1 percent or an estimated 3.5 million Filipino adults “were stranded by community quarantines.”

The results show that the highest rate of those who were stranded was recorded among Mindanao residents at 8.0 percent or an estimated 1.3 million individuals, followed by those with permanent residence in Visayas at 5.9 percent or around 770,000.

Ratings of 4.1 percent and 2.1 percent were recorded among those whose permanent homes are in Balance Luzon and Metro Manila, respectively.

The SWS said the “July 2020 figures are not statistically different from May 2020” when 6.4 percent or around 1.1 million among Mindanao residents and 5.3 percent or around 1.8 million from Balance Luzon were stranded due to community quarantines. There are more stranded men than women.

The survey was conducted from July 3 to 6 among 1,555 adult Filipinos through mobile phone and computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI). – PTV News
