BI to deport Korean fugitive

MANILA — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is waiting for a team of Korean policemen to arrive in Manila soon to fetch and escort the fugitive on his return flight to Korea.

This, as the bureau, is set to deport Kang Bum Su, 47, who is wanted by authorities in his country for alleged violent acts he committed there several years ago.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the South Korean was arrested last December 5 by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) at his home in Bgy. Anonas, Clark Avenue, Villasol Subdivision, Angeles City, Pampanga.

He noted that the arresting officers were armed with a warrant of deportation that he issued pursuant to a summary deportation order that the BI board of commissioners issued against Kang on November 4 last year.

Kang was ordered expelled after his embassy in Manila informed the BI about his criminal record and that he had become undocumented as a result of the cancellation of his passport by the Korean government.

A Korean court issued a warrant of arrest against Kang on Aug. 25, 2015.

The said act punishes any person or group of persons who commit violence and use a deadly weapon that results in bodily harm to their victims.

“He was already included in our blacklist to prevent him from re-entering the country,” Morente said in a statement.

BI intelligence officer and FSU chief Bobby Raquepo disclosed that the South Korean hid in the Philippines for more than six years apparently to evade arrest and prosecution for his crime.

The bureau’s travel database showed Kang last arrived in Manila on July 24, 2011, and did not leave the country since then. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
