BOC seizes ₱2.3-M worth of used clothing

The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Cebu seized ₱2.3 million worth of used clothing.

The Port of Cebu on Tuesday (Sep. 7) confiscated 288 bales of used clothing from Korea. A pre-lodgement control order was initially issued “for suspicion that it contains “ukay-ukay”—a prohibited article.”

The bureau immediately issued a warrant of seizure and detention for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariffication Act, following inspection.

According to the BOC, the shipment will undergo “forfeiture proceedings” and disposal “in accordance with the bureau’s existing rules and regulations.”

The agency reminded the public to avoid patronizing second-hand clothing due to its threat on the public’s health. The Port of Cebu also seized an “ukay-ukay” shipment from Thailand worth ₱4.5 million in July.
