Bukidnon farmers to receive free corn seeds, fertilizers

MALAYBALAY CITY— Some 28,900 corn farmers in Bukidnon will start receiving free corn seeds and fertilizers next week.

Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri Jr. said farmers who are tilling a total of 26,000 hectares of corn will each receive a bag of RR corn seeds and 57,800 bags of 14-13-14 fertilizers,

Alson Quimba, provincial agriculturist, said the beneficiaries are corn farmers who are tilling at least a hectare of land.

“The beneficiaries are poorest of the poor corn farmers in the province. Meaning, corn farming is their only means of livelihood and no other source of income,” Quimba said.

“The seeds and fertilizers will be delivered by the suppliers to the city or town gymnasium where the distribution will be held,” Quimba said.

Based on tentative distribution schedule, the distribution will start on March 5 in three towns in the southern part of the province with 3,027 beneficiaries. The rest of the towns in the province will receive their fertilizers and seeds the following day. (Mel B. Madera/PNA)
