Bulacan businessman nabbed for Comelec gun ban

GUIGUINTO, BulacanĀ — A businessman in this town was arrested on Saturday morning for violating the Commission on Election (Comelec) gun ban in preparation for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on May 14.

Police Supt. Orlando Castil Jr., Guiguinto police chief, identified the gun ban violator as Fernando Garcia III, 59 years old, married and a resident of 613 Canlapan, Barangay Santo Rosario, in the City of Malolos.

Castil said in a report that Garcia, who was driving a Toyota Altis with license plate NQU 983, was flagged down in a province-wide simultaneously Comelec checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion and was seen with a 9mm Glock pistol with serial number BDV 858 in the right side of the driver’s seat.

Castil said the checkpoint was conducted with the presence of municipal Comelec officer of Guiguinto Josefino F. Maclang.

The suspect was then arrested and apprised of his rights and brought to the Guiguinto police station for documentation and appropriate charges prepared for filing in court.Ā (Manny Balbin/PNA)
