The one-seat-apart policy in public utility vehicles (PUVs) has been approved for implementation.
The policy was one of the recommendations of the economic cluster which were all approved Monday night. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque shared that it was a “unanimous decision” of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s cabinet.
He also disclosed that “as far as reducing the one-meter distance is concerned, it was arrived at as a matter of consensus and it is based on science, based on studies which Dr. Dayrit presented to the IATF.”
The use of plastic barriers in between seats or the use of UV light will be allowed soon. The capacity of trains will also be increased to 50%.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has stated that it will discuss the implementation of the one-seat-apart policy and to immediately release the guidelines.
The transportation department has reminded the public of the 7 commandments for all modes of public transportation:
1. Wearing of proper face mask
2. Wearing of face shield
3. No talking and no eating
4. Adequate ventilation
5. Frequent and proper disinfection
6. No symptomatic passengers
7. Appropriate physical distancing
