CEBU CITY – After the simultaneous river clean-up drive in Central Visayas last Saturday, the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) is again asking the public, especially those residing near the rivers, to help in their effort to rehabilitate all polluted rivers in the metropolis.

Former City Councilor Nida Cabrera, who now heads Cenro, said in an interview Monday she is again asking the help of volunteers as they are set to clean up two more rivers next month.

Cabrera said Cenro is slated to clean up the Lahug River on March 9 and the Guadalupe River on March 16.

She said they will be cleaning up these two rivers next upon the recommendation of the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas (DENR-7), which initiated the simultaneous region-wide river clean-up drive last Saturday.

“We will be cleaning up the Lahug and Guadalupe rivers next and I hope we will have the help of many volunteers just like we had last Saturday when we cleaned up the Bulacao River,” Cabrera said.

“I am again knocking on the hearts of the public, students, and those living near these rivers to help us in this endeavor,” she added.

Cabrera also urged the communities and business establishments located on the riversides to no longer dump their garbage or waste water on the rivers.
