Central Visayas has new football club prexy

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Recently-elected president of the new Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA) (formerly Cebu Football Association) Rodney Orale, has big shoes to fill in as the successor to the highly successful reign of former CFA president Ricky Dakay.

But Orale, an ardent supporter of the game in the Queen City of the South, is an efficient worker and is a fitting replacement for Dakay, who recommended Orale as his replacement.

Dakay served for one term but was extended to two years to complete the new statutes and form the new organization which is CVFA to replace CFA.

Orale is, in fact, one of the hardest workers in the previous board and the CVFA Congress recognized his hard work by electing him as one of the members of the Board of Governors (BOG) last March 2. He was then voted as president by the BOG in their first meeting last April 1.

He was the head of the referees’ committee and he did a good job in uniting two football referees’ factions in Cebu. He then helped them organize referees’ courses and the recruitment of young referees.

Right now, Cebu has more than 50 referees in three different levels, probably the most number in any local FA’s.

That is because of the hard work of Orale with the support of the former CFA BOG and Dakay, who became CFA president in 2012 replacing then-president Richard Montayre.

Orale has lined up more projects in his term and plans to develop the sports of futsal and beach football.

He also wants to spread the gospel of the game in the island province of Bohol which is also a member of the CVFA.

He said he readily accepted the responsibility because of the support of Dakay and the Cebu football community.

“I follow the same purpose of our former president Engr. Dakay, which is to serve the football community so that Cebu will be known for football, as what they say, we are doing this for the ‘for the love of the game of football’,” said Orale, the owner of the Erich Rafael Construction (ERCO).

Orale and vice president Nimrod Quiñones are the only remaining officers from the previous administration who have been elected to the current CVFA board.

Aside from being the Vice President, Quiñones, a former sports journalist who now the manager of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, is also the association’s deputy chairman and heads the FairPlay and ethics committee.

Other officers elected were Dr. Alvin Roxas, chairman, finance committee and deputy chairman marketing committee; Chad Songalia, chairman organizing committee; Tirso Ramon Roa, chairman technical and development committee and deputy chairman futsal committee; Archie Reyes, chairman referee’s committee and deputy chairman technical and development committee; lawyer Johndee Piasidad, chairman legal committee; and Nilo Ferraren, chairman of youth and grassroots committee.

Completing the new set of officers are Jose Antonio Trebol, chairman futsal committee, deputy chairman organizing committee and youth and grassroots committee; Dr. Joseph Poblacion, chairman sports medical committee and deputy chairman referee’s committee; Bruce Richard Zabala, chairman ethics and FairPlay; Jose Guy Ceniza, chairman, marketing committee and deputy chairman finance committee; Glenn Labajo, deputy chairman sports medical committee; and Fr. Adriano Ocariza SVD. Lawyer Julius Ceasar Entice was appointed as General Secretary.

Two committees–the Audit Committee and Women’ Football Committee– still need to be filled up.
