The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday (July 16) the approved opening date for the school year 2021-2022.

In a statement issued by the department, it said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the opening of classes on September 13 for the upcoming school year. The department said it will release the new school calendar soon.

The DepEd expressed its gratitude to the President for his “full support to the delivery of quality basic education for the incoming school year.”

“We hope for our stakeholders’ continued cooperation and support as we prepare for another challenging yet worthwhile endeavor of educating our children amid a global health crisis,” the department added.

DepEd initially proposed the dates August 23, September 6, and September 13 for the Chief Executive to choose from for the first day of school this year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. – jlo
