More than 600,000 workers, mostly teachers, who served in the Oct. 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) have received their honorarium, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday.

Based on its latest data, the poll body said it has released the honorarium of 605,379 electoral board (EB) members and 37,333 Department of Education Supervisor Officials (DESOs) who served in the polls.

The EB chairperson, members, and DESOs received P10,000, P9,000, and P8,000, respectively.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said almost P7 billion had been disbursed for the payment of the honoraria.

Under Republic Act 10756 or the Election Service Reform Act, the EB payment and allowances must be paid within 15 days from the date of elections.

Aside from manning the polling precincts and counting the votes cast, election workers also assist voters during the election. (PNA)
