Comelec ready for symptomatic voters in May 9 polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu is prepared to accommodate voters who may have COVID-19 symptoms on the day of the national and local elections, a poll official in Cordova, Cebu said Tuesday, April 26.

Cordova Comelec officer Arvin Maghanoy said they will place the voter in an isolation polling place, and the voter’s ballot will be collected by a Comelec personnel.

“Kapag umabot na sa 37.5 pataas ang kanilang body temperature, maroon tayong isolation polling place o IPP,” he said.

“Pupunta lamang sila doon at pagkatapos may Comelec personnel na siyang kukuha ng balota kung saan sila registered at dadalhin papunta sa IPP,” he added.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the Comelec should coordinate with the local government units regarding the symptomatic voters.

Meanwhile, DOH pathologist Dr. Mary Jean Loreche advised the public that they should rather stay at home if they are not feeling well.

“Bawat isa sa atin, ang mga tao should be able to take responsibility of their accounts of themselves, meaning to say, alam mo na masama ang iyong pakiramdam, alam mo na dapat hindi ka pumunta doon sa mga gathering o even sa election, huwag na at manatili na lamang sa inyong mga tahanan,” she said.

Comelec earlier clarified that election policy remains unchanged and that it is still working on the implementation of the IPP. – Report from John Aroa/VC–ag
