The Commission on Elections (Comelec) shut down its automated election system (AES) servers and network infrastructure used on the May 9 national and local elections on Monday, May 30.
The shutdown, which was conducted in the presence of political parties and citizens’ groups, covered the central data center in PLDT Vitro Taguig, transparency data center in PLDT Vitro Parañaque, and backup data center in Data One Eastwood.

In a statement, the Comelec said the backup server was shut down first, followed by the transparency server and the central server.
“In the interest of transparency, the entire process was streamed live on the official Facebook page and YouTube channel of the Comelec,” it read.
“The decommissioned servers will be physically transferred to the Comelec warehouses. Data contained in the servers, including the transmitted election returns, may be provided upon approval of request,” it added. – ag
