The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to issue notices to all local candidates to take down their campaign posters and tarpaulins before the start of the campaign period on March 29.

“We will be coming out with a ‘notice’ by the end of the week for local candidates to start taking down their materials,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in an interview.

The poll body official reminded those who are vying for local positions to remove their propaganda materials before the start of the campaign period since these will be considered illegal.

The campaign period for candidates for members of the House of Representatives, and elective regional, provincial, city, municipal officials will begin on March 29 (Friday) yet until May 11 (Saturday).

Under the law, those who filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) will only become candidates at the start of the campaign period.

Meanwhile, Jimenez revealed that they continue to develop cases against national candidates who are violating the campaign rules.

“We are on cases build-up so we cannot reveal yet the names of the persons that have been cited. But we are proceeding with that,” he said.

The Comelec official added that the “Operation Baklas” activities or the dismantling of illegal campaign materials are continuously being conducted nationwide.
