Cops arrest man, 2 pals for gun ban violation

KABACAN, North Cotabato–Police officers arrested Sunday night three men, one of whom was carrying a gun, during a police operation in Barangay Poblacion here.

Chief Insp. Ronnie Cordero, Kabacan town police chief, identified the suspects as Ali Ambas Dilawagan, 32, of Pagalungan Maguindanao, Aldrin Causing, 36; and Edgar Juralba, both of Poblacion Kabacan.

Before the police operation, Cordero said David Saure, 51, municipal disaster officer, sought police assistance after men wearing bonnets were roaming near his home at past 11 p.m.

When police arrived, Cordero said the men sped away on board separate motorbikes. The police chased them until one of the men’s motorbike crashed.

Dilawagan later admitted he tossed his gun as they fled, police said.

Cordero said the trio refused to say why they were near Saure’s house at 11:30 p.m.

Police recovered a .45 caliber pistol with ammunition in the area.

Dilawagan is now facing charges for violation of the election gun ban in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls. (PNA)
