COVID-19 biomolecular lab of Lanao del Sur now operational

The COVID-19 biomolecular laboratory at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City is now ready to test suspected carriers of the coronavirus disease.

The ₱27-million funding to build the testing laboratory was raised by the hospital, local government of Marawi, Lanao del Sur, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

It can process 96 swab samples in one and a half hours. Results can be expected to come out within 24 to 48 hours.

“Mas mapapadali natin ang pag-screen o pag-test natin sa mga posibleng carrier ng COVID-19 virus. ‘Yan po ay napakalaking tulong dito sa atin sa Marawi City at Lanao del Sur (It will expedite screening and testing of possible carriers of COVID-19 virus. It is a great help for Marawi City and Lanao del Sur),” Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra stated.

“In fact, bumaba po ang ating mga active cases dito sa Marawi City from more than one hundred. Kahapon po, as of yesterday, ay walo lang po ang ating active cases (The [number of] our active cases in Marawi City declined from more than one hundred. As of yesterday, we only have eight active cases),” Gandamra added. – Report from Christine Lyn Viajante/PIA Iligan City
