DA launches Green Revolution 2.0 as PH works toward food sufficiency

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

The Department of Agriculture (DA) launched Green Revolution 2.0 on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Rizal Park in Manila in a bid to boost production of fresh fruits and vegetables in urban and rural areas.

This initiative is in line with the Marcos administration’s commitment in securing sufficient food supply in the country, as well as in improving the nutrition of Filipinos.

Through this program, Filipinos are encouraged to plant vegetables in their backyard to support the local food system and supply chain.

Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban led the launching ceremony which was attended by other local government units of Metro Manila and other government agencies.

He emphasized that the success of the project will be achieved through involvement, engagement, and collaborative efforts of stakeholders.

To ensure the sustainability of the project, DA will put up provincial production centers that will serve as consolidation areas for producers and consumers.

The National Parks Development Committee will also serve as the caretakers of the Luneta vegetable garden which is open to the public.

Meanwhile, the nationwide simultaneous vegetable planting in different barangays was also conducted, and was headed by the DA’s Regional Field Offices and five National Centers and Regional Stations of the DA-BPI.  –ag
