Dasma City bares screening of candidates for ‘Sunduan 2018’

DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite – The city tourism office is calling on interested boys and girls, ages 14 to 22 years old, for its annual “Sunduan” event.

City aspirants should report in person from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 6-8 for screening in preparation for the “Sunduan 2018” festival slated in May.

The festival is marked with the procession, which features the Binibini (lass) and Ginoong (lad) Sunduan. It goes through from the barangay to the city’s grand level of the competition and other featured tilts.

Now on its 16th year, the annual “Sunduan” is an old courtship custom of young men fetching young ladies from their homes as a Filipino tradition that values respect and high regard for women.

The city is staging this festival aimed at upholding the age-old customs, and as part of its various programs that protect women’s rights.

The event also aims to promote the city’s homegrown designers to showcase their collections, where the city provides a stipend of PHP 20,000 per participating designer and for the eventual winning designer in the competition in May.

Last year’s “Sunduan” yields the participation of 72 pairs of dashing city lads and enchanting lasses wherein each was given an incentive allowance of PHP1,000.

Interested participants may get their application form, and inquire on other details at the city tourism office. (Gladys Pino/PNA)
