DBM releases cash allocation for farmers

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the distribution of P8 billion cash allocation for more than a million rice farmers in the country.

Around 1.5 million eligible rice farmers will receive a P5,000 cash subsidy in the third and fourth quarters of this year.

“Our farmers deserve our help and care. The immediate release of cash assistance could provide relief to our rice farmers given the recent natural calamities they experienced,” DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said.

“This unconditional cash assistance could also provide aid to the rice farmers in securing farm inputs such as fertilizer and oil farm machinery,” she added.

The cash allocation is part of the Rice Farmers’ Financial Assistance program to help farmers affected by the Rice Tariffication Law.  – Report from Naomi Tiburcio/AG– gb
