DepEd says education quality won’t be affected

The Department of Education (DepEd) assures the quality of education in the country will not be affected as the school opening nears amid imminent threat of COVID-19.

DepEd Undersecretary Jesus Mateo says they will not stop drafting guidelines on the execution of the new normal if classes push through on August 24 amid challenges in the shift to online education.

The department has been addressing the absence of internet connection.

Mateo shares they have been coordinating with the telecommunication companies to make access to DepEd Commons free. They will also negotiate for the possibility of a single account for DepEd which will include teachers for continuous service.

It has been preparing teachers who are unfamiliar with virtual education in coordination with telecommunication companies for faster and reliable internet connection.

Learners with worries on internet access can be taught via television and radio.

Meanwhile, the agency has requested for additional funds to strengthen online education option should another pandemic break out. Congress is now considering the matter. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
