DepEd vows ‘to do better’ in self-learning modules

The Department of Education (DepEd) asserted that the distributed self-learning modules for distance learning students this year were not rushed.

Education Undersecretary Tonisito Umali said they have resorted to huge adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the production of learning materials.

The modules have undergone vetting mechanism, but the process was not as strict as the pre-pandemic procedures.

Umali disclosed that 35 errors have been found by the DepEd in the distributed modules.

“Doon sa isang bilyong modules na ibinahagi, itong 35 na nakalusot na maaaring ginagamit ng ating 22.5 million learners, humihingi po kami ng paumanhin and we wanted to do better (We are sorry for the 35 errors in the 1 billion distributed modules used by 22.5 million learners, and we wanted to do better),” Umali apologized.

Eighteen of the errors found are from regions and 15 came from private schools. The DepEd said it will ensure clean and organized modules for the second quarter which is targeted to be released in December. – Report from Bea Bernardo
