DICT launches VIMS to aid government’s Covid-19 vaccination program

By NG Seruela

The Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT) has launched the Vaccine Information Management System (VIMS) to serve as the information system for the vaccination rollout.

In the Laging Handa public briefing on Wednesday (April 21), DICT Undersecretary Manny Caintic said the VIMS will be the “single source of truth” for all the Covid-19 vaccination information needed by the government’s health department.

He explained that the data registered in VIMS is secure and will only be revealed to the Department of Health (DOH).

“The DICT shall also ensure the security of the VIMS as it allows information and data exchange with other systems. In this note, we are working on its interoperability with existing vaccines systems of the LGUs which will have the ability to upload their existing data to VIMS.”

The DICT’s information system will also be able to show the number of administered vaccines by region, generate a comparative report between the Philippines’ vaccination effort and those of other Southeast Asian countries, and track the supply and distribution of the vaccines. Caintic added that it will be updated every day.

“So, with the information system, hindi magtatagal from registration – consent – screening – vaccination…Iyon po ang ating objective, sa limang minuto marami tayong mababakunahan, milyun-milyon, pagdating ng dagsa ng ating mga bakuna na inaabangan natin in the coming months,” he said.

[So with the information system, it will not take long from registration- consent- screening- vaccination. Our objective is to vaccinate many individuals in five minutes. Millions (will be vaccinated) once the bulk of our vaccines arrive in the coming months]. – jlo
