As part of the agency’s persistent measures in response to the plight of Filipinos who fell prey to large scam hubs in Southeast Asia, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) hailed the successful repatriation of 35 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

These distressed migrants arrived in three batches at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, where they were met by DMW Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi and other key officials.

The first batch, consisting of eight human trafficking victims, arrived via AirAsia flight AK-586. This was followed by the second batch, also consisting of eight individuals, which arrived via AirAsia flight AK-582.

Rounding up the tally were 18 other migrant workers and an OFW released from prison after serving time for a money laundering case, who arrived aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR-2622 from Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Upon arrival, they were provided with the provision of immediate aid, including financial and welfare support for them to rebuild their lives with their loved ones.

In a statement on the sidelines of the OFWs’ arrival, the DMW reiterated its warning to Filipinos to remain vigilant against fraudulent job offers on social media platforms, advising job seekers to conduct a background check to ensure that these are legitimate and registered with the agency before accepting any overseas employment opportunity.
