DND willing to support gov’t efforts in resolving water shortage

MANILA — While there are other specific agencies tasked to resolve the ongoing water shortage in Metro Manila, the Department of National Defense (DND) is more than willing to support the national government in resolving the problem.

This was emphasized by Defense spokesperson Arsenio Andolong Monday when asked if whether the DND is doing anytime to support the government in resolving the water crisis which has so far affected residents of Metro Manila.

“There are government agencies that are primarily tasked with dealing with the water crisis and it is our fervent hope that they succeed in mitigating or solving this at the soonest possible time as a water shortage,” he added.

Also, the DND spokesperson said that if the water crisis is not controlled or remedied, it has the potential to become a national security issue.

“If not averted, could evolve into a national security issue. Having said that, the DND and its bureaus are ready to provide support to the national government in such an eventuality,” Andolong said.

Metro Manila and nearby provinces are suffering from daily rotational supply interruptions as the water level of Angat Dam in Bulacan, the reservoir supplying these areas, continues to decrease.
