With Filipinos traveling to commemorate their deceased loved ones during the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days on November 1 and 2, respectively, the Department of Energy (DOE) reassured the citizenry of an adequate and stable supply of electricity and fuel for the duration of these observances.

In a media release on Wednesday, the agency likewise encouraged the public to keep sustainability in check and be mindful of their energy consumption—whether at home, on the road, or at cemeteries.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said in a statement, “As we honor the memory of our departed loved ones this Undas, let us also uphold our duty to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable energy future for the Philippines.”

“By adopting energy-conscious practices, we can make this Undas truly safe, stable, and secure, not only for ourselves, but for generations to come.”

As part of various preparations for ‘Undas,’ the agency is working in close coordination with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), power generation companies, and electric cooperatives to prepare contingency measures for potential uptick in demand and possibility of service disruptions, in a bid to maintain an uninterrupted power supply throughout the weekend occasion.

The DOE is likewise in talks with petroleum retailers to ensure an adequate supply of fuel for motorists, ensuring that fuel prices are kept in check to protect consumers from unfair practices.

For travelers, the agency advises strategic trip planning to avoid peak traffic, ensure vehicle maintenance for fuel efficiency, and consider carpooling or public transport. At cemeteries, the public is encouraged to use energy-efficient lighting such as LED candles or solar lamps, and to dispose of batteries and e-waste properly to support a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Undas.
