DOH: 51.6-K dengue cases recorded from January to June

A total of 51,622 dengue cases were recorded from January 1 to June 18, 58% higher compared to the reported cases during the same period in 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday, July 4.

Most dengue cases were reported from Region Central Luzon at 6,641 (13%), Calabarzon at 6,361 (12%), and Zamboanga Peninsula at 4,767 (9%).

Meanwhile, a total of 13,075 dengue cases were recorded from May 8 to June 18 with the highest number of cases from Central Luzon at 1,826 (14%), Central Visayas at 1,570 (12%), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) at 1,175 (9%).

DOH also saw an increasing trend in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and CAR from May 8 to June 18.

Fifteen out of 17 regions, including Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, BARMM, CAR, and National Capital Region “exceeded the alert and epidemic threshold for the past four weeks,” according to DOH.

DOH also recorded 239 fatalities from the months of January 2022 to June 2022.

The DOH reminded the public to observe and practice the 4S strategies to prevent acquiring dengue: Search and destroy breeding places; Secure self-protection; Seek early consultation; and Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas. – gb
