DOH to voters: Brace for ‘hot’ village polls Monday

MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reminded the public to ensure that they are in good health condition while casting their votes in Monday’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections as hot weather is expected to be felt across the country.

In an advisory, the DOH said those with pre-existing conditions should always regularly take their medications.

“Before voting, be sure to eat and take your maintenance medicines,” the DOH said.

It also advised voters to wear comfortable clothes, particularly light-colored shirts and slippers in going to the polling precincts.

Voters are also encouraged to bring fans and umbrellas to protect themselves from extreme heat.

The DOH urged them to bring drinking water and food such as biscuits and candies.

It reminded voters to immediately seek medical attention or go to the nearest health station in case of emergency.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said temperatures across the country on Monday will be from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has earlier coordinated with the DOH in setting up first-aid stations in polling centers across the country.

Majority of the 177,575 polling precincts in the 36,781 voting centers or public school classrooms nationwide are only equipped with electric fans while some have no proper ventilation. (Leilani Junio/PNA)
