Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said on Friday (June 4) that more than 1,300 students of the Philippines Science High School (PSHS) will graduate this year, with 19 students set to study abroad.
De la Peña said a student from PSHS in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) campus obtained the highest general weighted average (GWA) of 1.03.
The official said 49.55% of the batch graduated with honors, a development he described as “one of the highest percentage of honor graduates in Pisay’s history.”
“A total of 81 graduates got admission from 90 prestigious universities abroad mostly with full scholarships, and 19 of them accepted the offer,” he said.
He said the graduates’ diplomas that he personally signed will be handed in English and Filipino versions. The graduation ceremonies will be held virtually for the second time due to the pandemic.
“No matter how many the diplomas there are and how time-consuming they can be, I have always enjoyed signing them personally. It feels good to know that my simple handwriting will forever be part of these papers that contribute significantly to the launching of promising careers in science and technology,” he said. –rir
