DPWH confirms dismissal of district engineers

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar confirmed that several district engineers have been relieved following their involvement in corruption.

According to DPWH Sec. Villar, around 14 district engineers were dismissed from their positions. The number may go up in the coming months.

Villar disclosed that the department has received complaints and is currently assessing them with the help of other government agencies.

The DPWH is also set to have a “rigodon” or a reshuffle as part of its campaign against corruption in the agency.

The DPWH Chief assured that the “Build, Build, Build” program of the government will not be interrupted despite the dismissal of several engineers.

“Malaki naman ang department at marami namang professionals. At mayroon naman kaming sistema kaya sa tingin ko naman ay hindi magiging malaki ang effect ng reshuffling (The department is big, and [there are] many professionals. And we also have a system so I think the reshuffling will not have a massive effect [on the projects].”

Villar bared that the department has plenty of projects scheduled to be finished for the first quarter of the year 2021 including the full-blown opening of the Skyway Stage 3 on January 14.

“Masasabi ko talaga na sa 2021 ang dami naming ide-deliver na projects. Talagang magiging historic po itong year na ito at makikita ng ating mga kababayan na napakalaki ng accomplishment ni PRRD sa mga infrastructure projects (I can really say that we have a lot of projects to deliver this 2021. This year will really be historic and the public will see the big accomplishment of PRRD in infrastructure projects).” – Report from Kenneth Paciente
