Drainage repair to shut down Cebu City’s famous barbecue strip

CEBU CITY — Larsian, the famous barbecue strip in Cebu, will be closed starting Monday, July 2, for two months as it undergoes rehabilitation and repair works.

Larsian administrator Joey Herrera said the two-month rehabilitation will include repair of the drainage system to address some sanitation concerns.

Herrera said the provincial government, which manages Larsian, has earmarked close to PHP2 million for the renovation of the barbecue strip, located near the Fuente Osmeña Circle landmark.

Barbecue stalls will be temporarily transferred to a nearby province-owned lot fronting the Cebu Maternity Hospital along B. Rodriguez Street which is just a few meters from the original location.

Herrera said stall owners and staff will also undergo a series of training on proper food handling and customer service while Larsian is temporarily closed.

The barbecue strip administrator is also inviting new concessionaires to submit their applications before the renovation is finished in September.

New concessionaires, Herrera said, must offer other food varieties aside from barbecue for them to be accommodated.

“We want new concessionaires who will be offering different kinds of food other than barbecue, so that customers will have a variety of food to choose from,” Herrera said. (Luel Galarpe/PNA)
