ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has penalized four businesses in this city for operating without registered business names.
Garry Micubo, business name processor of the DTI provincial office, on Monday said the penalized businesses consisted of two hardware stores, a general enterprise, and a repair shop.
Micubo said the erring traders violated Republic Act 3883, which mandates the registration of business name for all persons and entities selling products and services. The penalty ranges from PHP1,000 to PHP10,000 depending on the business capital.
Micubo said all businesses, regardless of size, must register a business name with the DTI since it is a requirement before they could be issued business permits.
He said the business name and the corresponding fee are as follows: Barangay level, PHP230 including documentary stamps; city level, PHP530 including documentary stamps; regional level, PHP1,060 with documentary stamps; and, national level, PHP2,060 including documentary stamps.
He explained that a business name registered in the barangay level can only be used in the village where the establishment is located; city level in the entire city; regional level in the region; and, national level, anywhere in the country. The validity period of the business name registered with the DTI is five years.
He advised businessmen to comply with the requirements stipulated in RA 3883 before opening up a business. Last year, DTI penalized eight local business establishments for violation of the same law. (R. G. Antonet Go/PNA)
