DTI holds symposium to promote consumer welfare

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office here is holding a series of school symposium to promote the consumer welfare and protection.

Lynna Joy Cardinal of DTI-Antique said they held a symposium in Mag-aba National High School in Pandan town for Grades 7-12 students last September 18.

“We are conducting the symposia in preparation also for the Consumer Month Celebration on October,” she said in an interview Wednesday.

She said they already held a symposium at the Luis Baraquia National High School in Barangay Villafont in Sibalom.

“We are also scheduled to have it in the towns of Libertad and Patnongon,”Cardinal said, adding these would be conducted this September.

During the symposium, students watched a video presentation and given an on-the-spot quiz bee.

“We are going to have showcase of mandatory products such as home appliances that have Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker or Philippine Standard (PS) Mark so the people in northern Antique would also become aware of the products that have been certified by the Bureau of Product Standards to be safe,” Cardinal said.

Products which have been confiscated by the DTI Antique during its monitoring since January that have not passed the Bureau of Product Standards will also be destroyed in public in Culasi sometime October. (PNA)
