‘Egay’, habagat death toll up to 25

At least 25 individuals have been reported dead while 20 others are missing due to the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Egay” last week and the effect of the southwest monsoon (habagat).

Based on the July 31 report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 23 of the 25 reported deaths and all the reported missing individuals have yet to be validated.

The toll for reported injured individuals also reached 52, including 13 that are yet to be confirmed.

So far, 654,837 families or 2,397,336 individuals have been affected by “Egay” and “habagat” across 47 provinces, including 17,349 that were preemptively evacuated in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and in Western Visayas.

A total of 312,995 individuals were also displaced including 50,987 inside 737 evacuation centers and 262,008 outside evacuation centers.

Damages

The NDRRMC estimated that 34,572 houses were partially damaged and 1,283 were totally destroyed.

Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P3,510,282,156.58 covering 252 roads, 19 bridges, and 112 schools.

As of July 30, the Department of Agriculture has estimated damages to the agriculture sector at P1.54 billion in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Caraga.

The super typhoon and “habagat” affected 99,272 farmers and fisherfolk, as well as 110,086 hectares of agricultural areas.

Estimated volume of production loss is at 66,075 metric tons (MT).

At least P146,687,925.51 worth of assistance have been provided.

Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Cavite, and Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro have been placed under a state of calamity. – cf
