Electricity still out in Isabela, power restoration starts

ALICIA, Isabela — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) and local electric cooperatives have begun restoring damaged power lines, poles and transmitters in Isabela, a day after the province suffered a massive power outage following the onslaught of Typhoon Rosita.

“Inspection had been done and restoration goes on,” NGCP-North Luzon communications specialist Melma Batario told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) over the phone on Wednesday.

Mobile and landline communications had also been erratic after telco companies Globe and Smart shut down their signals late in the afternoon until the evening of Tuesday.

A man identified as Jojo Jose of Dy Abra in Tumauini town has been declared missing, said Senior Supt. Mariano Rodriguez, Isabela police director.

Jose was believed to have drowned at a swollen river before noon Tuesday when he tried to cross despite the strong water current. His body has not yet been recovered.

At least 13,614 people or 4,133 families had fled to evacuation centers in Isabela, data from the Office of Civil Defense 2 (Cagayan Valley) showed. (Villamor Visaya, Jr./PNA)
