ERC issues show-cause order to MERALCO

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has issued a show-cause order to MERALCO for allegedly violating directives regarding the payment of electricity bills.

The ERC has given MERALCO 10 days to explain why it should not be penalized.

According to Chairperson Agnes Devanadera, the ERC will not tolerate the actions of MERALCO that burdened consumers during the Enhanced Community Quarantine and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine.

ERC Chairperson Devanadera cited the alleged violations of MERALCO including the non-compliance with the directives to use the word “estimate” in its bills and allowing four installment payments after the ECQ.
