Ex-Energy chief Lotilla nominated to head DOE anew

Malacañang announced Monday, July 11, that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has picked Raphael Perpetuo Lotilla as the chief of the Department of Energy (DOE) under the current administration.

Lotilla previously served the same position under former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from 2005 to 2007, and as the president of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles clarified that his designation is currently a “nomination pending clarification of his employment status.”

“Atty Lotilla, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s personal choice to head the DOE, is currently an independent director of Aboitiz Power and also of ENEXOR,” she said.

“While the matter is reviewed to determine whether an independent director is considered an officer of the company, Lotilla is considered a nominee,” she added.

Lotilla also served as deputy director-general at the National Economic Development Authority, as a coordinator at the Philippine Council for Sustainable Development, and as supervising official of the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council.

Atty. Lotilla is a law professor at the University of the Philippines where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree, and got his Master of Laws from the University of Michigan. –With report from Mela Lesmoras/AG – gb
