Ex-Sulu guv convicted for failing to file SALNs

MANILA – The Sandiganbayan has convicted former Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan after he admitted failing to file his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) from 2007 to 2011.

Tan entered a guilty plea during his arraignment at the Sandiganbayan 6th Division on Thursday for five counts of violation of Section 8 of Republic Act No. 6713, or the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees”.

The anti-graft court ordered the former governor to pay a PHP25,000 fine for the violation.

Earlier, the Office of the Ombudsman accused Tan of “willfully, unlawfully and criminally” failing to file his SALN with Disclosure of Business Interest and Financial Connections and Identification of Relatives in Government Service under oath and submit them to the Ombudsman.

Tan’s son, Maimbung Mayor Samier Tan, is also facing similar charges for alleged non-filing of SALN for the years 2010 and 2011 before the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division.

The arraignment of the younger Tan was set on May 11. (PNA)
