Expert says current COVID-19 infection not as ‘destructive’ as former variants

by Lynroe Francisco

Infectious diseases expert Dr. Rontgene Solante said Wednesday, July 20, that the current COVID-19 infection in the country is “not as destructive” as the previous variants.

In the Laging Handa briefing, Solante said the variants are “still highly transmissible” but they are not occupying a lot of the country’s hospital beds.

“Sana matutukan ng pansin ng bagong [Inter-Agency Task Force] how we can enhance our mobility, how we can enhance our life in terms of looking at it and living with the virus without that fear,” Solante added.

Solante noted that efficiency is needed to administer COVID-19 booster shots to the eligible individuals.

He added that COVID-19 testing, vaccination, and contact tracing are crucial in lessening the “destruction” of the current virus infection. – gb
