Farmers in Nueva Vizcaya were forced to throw away kilograms of tomatoes due to issues in oversupply.

According to uploader Vivian Faye Baluca Fermantez, despite their good quality, nobody wants to buy the produce anymore.

Farm gate prices of tomatoes have dropped to P3 to P15, which is far from their production cost.

According to the Department of Agriculture (DA), they have received reports of alleged oversupply of tomatoes in Nueva Vizcaya and Pampanga.

The DA said it is intensifying food mobilization and negotiations with hotels and restaurants to purchase the excessive tomato harvest.

“Dalhin natin sa lugar na mayroon namang kakulangan, ‘yung oversupply sa isang lugar might be beneficial to other regions,” DA Assistant Secretary Kristine Evangelista.

“May mga kausap tayong institutional buyers, food chains na ni-link natin sa onion farmers, ‘yan po ay pwede i-link [din] sa mga nagtatanim ng lettuce at kamatis,” Evangelista added. GB/Report from Clay Pardilla-ag
