FDA: COVID-19 vaccine may be approved by the end of 2020

The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine can be approved by the end of the year 2020 given a best case scenario.

Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Director-General Eric Domingo explained,
“Para talagang sigurado kailangan kang mag-clinical trial Phase 3. Ito ‘yung maramihan na anywhere from mga 3,000. ‘Yung ibang trials up to 30,000. And they complete those in 3 months pagkatapos maganda ang resulta, then ‘yung best case scenario siguro a few of these vaccines might be applying for registration by [the] end of the year (To be sure, clinical trial Phase 3 is needed. This is for large groups anywhere from 3,000. Other trials are up to 30,000. And they complete those in 3 months and if the results are good, then the best case scenario is a few of these vaccines might be applying for registration by [the] end of the year).”

The FDA reminded that the vaccine might have a side effect such as pain or swelling on the injected area, fever, allergy to the vaccine, diseases, or worse, death.

The possible effects of the vaccines being developed are strictly being monitored. The agency guaranteed that it will be thorough in its process and will disallow the use of a vaccine if it is not safe.
