Former councilor Ardot Parojinog found dead in detention cell

Former Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo “Ardot” Parojinog has been found lifeless in his detention cell Friday morning in an Ozamiz Police Station.

Based on the initial report, there are no marks of abuse on the body of Parojinog. Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Lieutenant General Camilo Cascolan has tasked a thorough investigation on the incident.

According to PNP Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, Parojinog was in good condition after he departed the PNP Custodial Center Thursday. He travelled to Ozamiz to attend his case hearing Friday.

“Ang una nating ulat na nakuha ay matamlay siya pero base sa medical check-up na isinagawa rito sa Kampo Crame bago umalis ay fit to travel naman siya. (The initial report said he was not well but based on a medical check-up conducted in Camp Crame, he was fit to travel).”

Meanwhile, the Ozamiz Chief of Police, all night shift duty personnel, and 4 police escort from Camp Crame are under restrictive custody. Parojinog was arrested on 2018 in Taiwan. He has allegedly escaped the police operation on July 2017 due to illegal drugs. His brother, former Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Senior, has been killed in the operation.

Ardot Parojinog was facing the charges of murder and illegal possession of firearms. Report from Bea Bernardo
