Government awaits permission from the USA on Filipinos aboard the Grand Princess

The Philippine government is still waiting for the permission from the United States of America on the repatriation of the Filipinos aboard the M/V Grand Princess Cruise Ship struck with Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and currently docked in Oakland, California.

According to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Sarah Arriola, the department is preparing for the repatriation of more than five hundred Filipinos aboard the cruise ship, however, they are still waiting for the go signal from the US State Dept. due to the protocols in place over there.

Based on the data of the DFA, there are 529 Filipino crew and 9 Filipino passengers aboard the ship.
