Gov’t, private sector team up to further improve PH governance

MANILA — Leaders from the government and non-government organizations (NGOs) have teamed-up to discuss how to further improve delivery of public service with the help of civil society organizations (CSOs).

The Participatory Governance Cluster of the Cabinet (PGC) Co-Chairs, Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, will host an Open Government and Participatory Government Regional Dialogue in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental from Jan. 29-31, 2018.

Among the speakers are officials of the DBM, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Finance (DOF), business groups, and NGOs.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia will welcome the dialogue participants while Bohol Governor Edgardo Chatto and Mayor Lissa Marie Streegan of Sogod, Cebu will serve as panelists in one of the sessions focused on open government practices at he local level.

Topics to be discussed include an overview on the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Participatory Governance Cluster (PGC), and the proposed initiatives under the PGC Roadmap Phase 2.

Other issues to be discussed include the roadmap to improve local governance, themes for open government sub-national commitment/plan, public financial management, the overview of this year’s national budget and the budget reform bill, and the tax reform program.

A session will also be held to discuss the overview of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which is a global standard for transparency and good governance on oil, gas and mineral industries. (Joann Villanueva/PNA)
