Gov’t to hire 50,000 additional contact tracers

The government will hire 50,000 more contact tracers in addition to 3,000 contact tracing teams composed of 54,000 members as the country continues to fight COVID-19.

DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said they aim to hire additional contact tracers before the end of the month. Those who will be prioritized for hiring are graduates of medical-allied and criminology courses.

“Kinakailangan po natin itong mga contact tracers na ito para ma-deploy na natin kaagad sa mga lugar, especially doon sa mga lugar na may mataas pa ring numero ng COVID-19 positive patients (We need contact tracers to be deployed to areas, especially those with high number of cases),” Malaya said.

“In the meantime, sa ating pong mga kababayan na nag-iisip mag-apply bilang contact tracer, ihanda na po siguro natin iyong personal data sheet (In the meantime, those who want to apply may prepare their personal data sheet),” Malaya added.

The DILG said the compensation for the recruitment of contact tracers will depend on the budget to be released by the DBM. The agency is now waiting for its instructions.

The DBM recently assured the government has enough funds for its campaign against COVID-19.
