Groups heed calls to disperse

As of 12:00 noon today, the Philippine National Police noted no untoward incident in activities of militant labor organizations on the observance of Labor Day across the country.

Some labor and transport organizations in Tondo, Manila, Liwasang Bonifacio and España Boulevard have heeded calls to voluntarily disperse and terminate their activities.

Meanwhile, the PNP monitored more or less 700 mass protesters at Welcome Rotonda, Quezon City and more or less 250 mass activists from Metro Colon going to Plaza Independencia, Cebu City.

The PNP would like to reiterate that the entire Metro Manila including the Bubble provinces remains under MECQ and strict implementation of health protocols is being enforced by authorities.

Under the MECQ, any forms of mass gathering are prohibited to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and we would like to encourage the general public to stay at home or do online Labor Day programs instead rather than going to physical gatherings and assemblies.

“We would like to thank those militant and labor groups who heeded our call to abandon their earlier plans to stage public assemblies. Our objective is to keep everyone safe.”, Sinas said.
