Guevarra welcomes Faeldon appointment to BuCor

MANILA — Department of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra welcomed on Friday the appointment of former Customs chief Nicanor Faeldon to head the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

“The president has chosen Nicanor E. Faeldon to replace Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa as director general of the Bureau of Corrections. The DoJ has interposed no objections to the proposed appointment of Mr. Faeldon, and is now seeking the favorable endorsement of the Civil Service Commission as part of the requirements of the Bureau of Corrections Act of 2013,” Guevarra told reporters.

Faeldon, 53, was a captain in the Philippine Marines when he participated in a mutiny against the government in 2003.

He replaces dela Rosa, who has filed his candidacy for senator in next year’s midterm elections.

Before his appointment as BuCor head last April, dela Rosa, 56, led the Philippine National Police as director-general. He was Davao police chief from 2012-2013. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
