Guimaras designates areas for community fireworks display

ILOILO CITY — The provincial government of Guimaras has designated areas for community fireworks display in each of the five municipalities of the province in preparation for the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Governor Samuel Gumarin in his Executive Order no. 62 released Thursday deemed it necessary to designate “public areas as locations for the community fireworks display.”

These include the provincial capitol grounds in Jordan; municipal plazas in Sibunag, Nueva Valencia and Buenvista ; and Barangay Suclaran plaza in San Lorenzo.

The identification of areas was in line with Executive Order 28 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte that provides for the regulation and control of the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.

“Local government units are encouraged to conduct information campaigns and other relevant activities that will heighten public awareness of the risks of using firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices,” the EO stated.

Jaypee Kein G. Entredicho, information officer III of the Guimaras provincial government, said a public address system going around the province informing the public of the order also started Thursday.

Meantime, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) has reiterated its call for support to its “no stray bullets, no indiscriminate firing this year-end” campaign.

PRO 6 spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero stressed that violators can be easily identified and charged because the Philippine National Police has a database of all licensed firearms and through the integrated ballistics identification system at the Crime Laboratory.

PRO6 has also provided hotline numbers ‎0999-995-5072 and ‎0999-558-7914, for the public to report incidents of indiscriminate firing or illegal discharge.

He also assured that identities of informants will be kept confidential. (Perla Lena/PNA)
