KORONADAL CITY — The city government is all set to host starting next week the Little League Philippines national finals and the World Archery Philippines qualifying leg.

Tony Aguilar, city sports coordinator, said Thursday around 700 baseball and softball players, as well as archers from parts of the country are expected to join the two major sports competitions.

He said at least 45 teams will compete in the Little League finals, which is slated May 19 to 26.

“The delegates are expected to start arriving today (May 16),” Aguilar said in a radio interview.

Among the teams set to arrive Thursday are from Tanauan, Batangas and the National Capital Region.

The official said they assisted the arrangements for the playing venues and billeting quarters of the participants in coordination with the South Cotabato Little League Baseball Association.

The games will be played at the South Cotabato Sports Complex, Koronadal National Comprehensive High School, and the Notre Dame of Marbel University.

Aguilar said the archery events, which will be joined by top archers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, will be held anew at the new city hall grounds here on May 24 to 26.

The same site hosted the Mindanao leg of the World Archery Philippines-Philippine Archery Cup in January 2018.

“It will be a qualifying event for the Southeast Asian games,” he said.

The hosting of the event was pushed by City Mayor Peter Miguel, the vice president for government affairs of World Archery Philippines.
