MANILA — The umbrella organization Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) will not appeal the PHP25-minimum wage hike approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR).
ALU-TUCP spokesperson Alan Tanjusay said that they will just file a new wage petition with the RTWPB-NCR next month or early next year.
“We plan to file another wage hike petition in December to the first week of January 2019 by citing supervening condition,” he said in an interview on Tuesday.
The TUCP-ALU official believed that it would be useless to file an appeal since there has never been a case in the past that an appeal has been granted.
“Never in the history of the wage since 1989 that the board seriously reconsider any of our appeal or reconsideration,” he said.
“It is useless to file an appeal… so we will not appeal at this time,” Tanjusay added.
On Monday, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced the pay increase for minimum wage earners in Metro Manila.
Earlier, the labor group has filed a PHP334 hike in daily wages.
Under the law, wage orders may be appealed by the petitioner within 10 days after the publication of the decision.
The DOLE reported that a total of 16 of the 17 regional wage boards have already issued their respective wage orders.
Only the Caraga (Region 13) wage board has yet to issue a wage order since it has not yet reached its anniversary date which is on December 8. (/PNA)
