Lacson, Gatchalian positive for COVID-19

Presidential candidate Senator Panfilo Lacson Sr. and reelectionist Senator Sherwin Gatchalian announced Friday (Jan. 7) that they tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Both are already in isolation.

“Following strict health protocols, I went on self-quarantine away from family, friends and the public. So far, I am only experiencing mild symptoms from the virus and this goes to show that the vaccines are effective and working against it. I enjoin everyone to get your booster shots right away,” Gatchalian said in a statement.

Lacson’s office announced on Thursday (Jan. 6) the cancellation of a press forum with his running mate, Senate President Vicente Sotto III.

The Partido Reporma media bureau office in Greenhills, San Juan, which has been hosting the activity since Dec. 9, 2021, will also be undergoing extensive sanitation and disinfection procedures amid the continuing threat of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.

Lacson was in the building for several hours on Monday before he received information that he got exposed to the virus.

He started experiencing symptoms by Tuesday but said in a statement that his fever, colds, sore throat, and cough were gone by Thursday although his test result had yet to be released. (PNA) -rir
